Join us

We are a free, open band and community. We hope you’ll join us in person, but we also stay organized and in touch online.

  • Anyone (near or far) interested in keeping up-to-date with our group including logistics about upcoming practices and performances is welcome to join our mailing list!
  • Anyone (who has joined us in person) interested in staying in touch with bandmates, organizing informal gigs and gatherings, swapping tips about instrument care, etc. is welcome to join our Discord channel!

Excited to see you online and in the street!

Join the School of HONK Discord Channel!

Over the past few years, we’ve received requests from members to expand our digital spaces so we can stay in touch with one another outside of our weekly Sunday sessions. Currently we have, and will keep, our private Facebook page. But not everyone uses this platform, and so we’ve created an additional place – The School of HONK! Discord Channel. Here you can ask fellow bandmates questions about instrument maintenance, find out who else is going to the upcoming Rebirth show, share pics of polka dots spotted on your daily commute, and more!

Just like our Facebook page, this space is for current and former bandmates who have come out to a Sunday session and played with us before. If you’ve never joined us in real life, hold off on joining our virtual space until we’ve had a chance to meet.

New to Discord? No worries! Start by viewing this quick intro video to get a general idea of how the platform works. Then download Discord on your phone or your computer or both! Next you can create your account and try joining our channel. Here is a text-based walk-through, and here is a video if you’d prefer.

But what if I’m still stuck? No problem! For the next few Sundays, we’ll have mentors available to help get you set up and walk you through the basics. Bring your device and we’ll have you posting your very first day! Wow! Wow! WOW!

Ready to join? We’re inviting everyone to start by reading our community guidelines and then head over to the Welcome section to post an introduction with your name, your instrument(s), and a fun fact about yourself!

As we navigate this new digital experiment, feel free to share feedback on Discord with moderators Rosalie, Josh, and Melody on Discord, or email rosalie@schoolofhonk.org.
